Found in English- influenced countries. Common Law Common Law Judges create law through interpretation; Congressmen keep written laws vague, leaving the judges to define them (making the law). Very expensive because of the many lawyers, who sway the judge so he can make an informed decision; anyone can sue anyone, so you need a lawyer to cover your ass. Common Law Common Law Allows businesses to constantly innovate, becoming serial monopolists. Keep people guessing about the law, since you will always be sued. Civil Law Civil Law Codification of law common in French and Spanish influenced countries (majority of international legal systems). ____ determines whether you were right or wrong, while ____ simply determines the facts, making the judge irrelevant.
