Countering aggressive behavior Countering Aggressive Behavior We get mad and they get mad back; possible escalation of aggression and the shock factor creates vulnerability, injecting fear into the unknown. Stressful conversations: Tone Clarity Avoid euphemisms and use conciseness to have a successful stressful conversation. Remain neutral with intonation, facial expressions, and body language (which should match) to have a successful stressful conversation. Clarity, Tone, and Temperate Phrasing Temperate Phrasing Your subconscious emerges during communication, so practice control over it (word functionality); communication, not the transmission of intent or feelings. Ingredients for successful stressful conversations: Parent/Child Parent; Adult; Child For transactional analysis, you can be holier-than-thou (____), rational and consistent (____), or emotional, pleasure-seeking, and irrational (____). Dialogue thats emotion-laded communication; correction and defensive mode; criticizing. Adult/Adult Child/Child Dialogue thats emotion-laded communication; heated arguments with threats, insults, and irrational behavior; avoid at all costs. Neutral tone negotiation, which is the goal; remove emotion and stressfulness. Intradeal Renegotiations Postdeal Renegotiations Expiration of agreement, but parties wish to renew the formal relationship (i.e. new lease). Agreement specifies times or events that allow the review of provisions (i.e. sports contracts before they become a free agent). Postdeal Renegotiations Extradeal Renegotiations One or both parties wish to correct a perceived inadequacy of an agreement while it is still in force (i.e. opportunity to correct something). By virtue of law, custom, or other commitment, parties are obliged to negotiate at the expiration of an agreement.
