Delgado 1 Take a hundred people, sit them in a single room, and ask them all if they have eaten at a fast food restaurant in the last week. Chances are that everyone will respond yes, clearly offering evidence on how large and expansive the hospitality industry has grown. The hospitality industry, which includes the restaurant, airline, and hotel industries, is the largest and fastest- growing industry of today. More people are discovering the facility of having someone else cook their food or make their vacation a theatrical experience. For this reason, I decided to take the Introduction to Hospitality course offered at the University of Central Florida. I want to be a part of the overall experience of a guest, whether it is face-to-face interaction with a guest or the indirect role of granting a certain accommodation. Traveling is one of my favorite hobbies, which fuels my interest in studying about the travel and tourism industry. As of today, I have been to California, Tennessee, and Alaska as part of domestic vacations. My international itinerary has included Colombia, Mexico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. My family and I travel at least once a year for a week or so abroad. Being able to experience the culture of the destinations I have been to quenches my thirst for knowledge. Just getting the chance to communicate with people from across the sea or over the plateaus excites my interest in learning about their lifestyles and finding a common ground. Therefore, my curiosity towards other cultures and my necessity of travel definitely drives my focus towards a degree in Hospitality.
