Barriers Barrier how familiar of word it is! But why does everybody know it? Because barriers are everywhere, people deal with many of them such as language, cultural impediments, communication problems, and so on. Rolando Niella and LaRay Barna in their articles, “Barriers " and “Intercultural Communication Stumbling Blocks,” illustrate how language and culture can be barrier to newcomers. Studying abroad presents many challenges for foreigners. The major barriers that international students have to face are language and cultural differences; but it is ultimately up to students that decide how they will defeat or give in to these obstacles. Language is the major barrier for non-native speakers, because there are so many languages. Niella compares the way people learn tennis to the way a language is learned.
