Yueming Guo ENG 209 Holland October 12, 2009 First Draft When people came to this world that means they have faced lots of obstacles in different aspects, such as behavior barriers, communication problems, cultural impediments, language hindrances, and so on. Therefore, barriers have different meanings in the different aged people’s eyes. For children, barrier means how to independent by themselves, for adult barrier means how to find a desirable job by themselves. At this time, how to write an interesting introduction is my biggest barrier. Rolando Niella and LaRay M. Barna in their articles “Barriers " and “Intercultural Communication Stumbling Blocks,” illustrate how language and culture can be barrier to a newcomer. Studying abroad presents many challenges for international students. However, one of the biggest challenges is making new friends. Friends of different ethnicities are hard to make because of various barriers that second language speakers must deal with. The major barriers that international students have to face are language and cultural barriers; but it is ultimately up to students that decide how they will defeat or give in to these barriers.
