E-COMMERCE RISK ANALYSIS2Introduction to the CompanyAmazon is an e-commerce-based business that was initially founded as an onlinebookstore in the year 1994 by Jeff Bezos. Currently, Amazon is one of the biggest e-commercemarketplaces, dealing with the sales of goods and cloud computing services (Kristensen et al.2017). Following the first month of commencing its business, Amazon sold books to about 50states and conducted its business across 45 countries in the world (Kristensen et al. 2017).Despite the tremendous growth realized after Amazon was incorporated, the companyexperienced some hitches in the 90 and 2000 linked to the system outages as well as a disconnectin its logistics system such as failed shipments (Amazon, 2020). With the current trends in the e-commerce business, Amazon is significantly evolving in its competitive nature by integrating awide range of products and services. Amazon is also integrating infrastructure for computingservices, sales of electronics devices, integrating digital content as well as including the e-commerce services (Amazon, 2019). Currently, Amazon is valued at 268 billion and hasintegrated the concept of Shopify that allows individuals and businesses to not only display butalso sell their products online (Amazon, 2019). Amazon is currently expanding its businessmodel to incorporate various services such as banking, cloud computing and streaming videoservices.Through the A.W.S. Amazon web services, the company has managed to offer anextensive set of services, namely, online applications, analytics, databases, storage, andcomputing (Amazon, 2020). The deployment of these services has helped the company growthhence fold at a reduced I.T cost.
E-COMMERCE RISK ANALYSIS3AnalysisBusiness ProfileAmazon has one of the robust business profiles among the e-commerce companies in theworld. The company has its headquarters situated at Seattle in Washington D.C., United States ofAmerica (U.S.A.) (Kristensen et al. 2017). At the top of its leadership, Amazon has three ChiefExecutive Officers (C.E.O.), where Jeff Bezos is the overall Chief Executive officer of thecompany (Emerson, 2019). At the same time, Andy Jassy and Jeff Wilke are the C.E.O.s ofAmazon web services and Worldwide consumers, respectively (Amazon, 2019). The respectiveChief Technology Officer and Chief financial offer are Werner Vogels and Brian Olsavky(Amazon, 2019).Shelley L. is the principle accounting coordinator, the worldwide controllerand the V.P., while Jeffery is the C.E.O., global consumer (Amazon, 2019). To enhanceeffectiveness in running the company, Bezos established the three key sectors, which he terms asthe pillars of the e-commerce, namely, Amazon web services, prime and the market place (Tou etal. 2019). A business that started as an online store selling books has now expanded to otherareas of entertainment, media cloud computing, consumer technology and logistics.
