Notion of a “boundary” Rules for behavior and intimacy in relationships  There are multiple components of a system, depending on what you’re looking at  they system varies; we are looking at the system of the family The family itself is the system Within the family you have subsystems – the individuals and dyads within the  family The supra-system – outside the system – the environment or context that affects  the system or is affected by the system; politics, religion, economy, events in the  environment  Each component of the system can effect the other; the economy goes bad,  people lose jobs, people that are supposed to be providers become questioned; this  messes up the family system and other sub systems
