Experimental Activity #2 Elliot Waniek The activity I chose to attend was called 21 st Century Socialism and Venezuela spoken by Eva Golinger, an advisor to the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez. In Golinger’s speech, she spoke about how the U.S. arranged a coup for the Venezuelan government in May 2002 and the U.S. denied their actions for a few years. It was only when top-secret documents from the C.I.A. stating information about the coup in Venezuela did the U.S. come out and discussed the corrupt coup in 2005. She also talked about the economy and how oil is the lifeline of Venezuela, and is the only resource that truly helps Venezuela benefit to run as a government and country. I chose this event because I always heard about social and political issues in Europe and Middle East by checking CNN.com, but never in South America. The only thing I really knew about South America is that it had a lot of jungle, farm producing products, and it was home to many of the best soccer players in the world, but in terms of how a government was run I only though of the
