Reflection #3 Elliot Waniek Being a student at a university is definitely a stressful and changing time for a freshman student. However, many of the freshman class take for granted how much the professors work in order to provide the most recent educational information to the body of students at UC Santa Barbara. As Britt Andreatta said in her book Navigating the Research University: A Guide for Firsts-Year Students , “Faculty members are like people who liked school so much that we never left” (Andreatta, 2011). It is a long and tedious process working your way up the university system as you start out as an assistant professor, then associate professor and finally a full professor. Although working as a professor may seem appealing to many people, it is not exactly the type of path I would want to pursue in the future. The idea of researching several projects at once somewhat bewilders me as I am a person who enjoys receiving a set task and working towards completing that task. As much as I enjoy living on my own, having my own workload and social life, the
