By 2011, AT&T is the 12 th largest company in whole United States by total revenue, and the largest company headquartered in Dallas. (1) From 2000 to 2010 AT&T has grown a staggering 3.7%, allowing it to be the first ranking company in the industry of Telecommunications, with $124,629 million dollars in revenues, followed by Verizon Communications and Comcast with $106,565,0 and $37,937.0 million dollars in revenues respectively. (1) AT&T is constituted by much of the former Bell System and also includes ten of the original 22 Bell Operating Companies, along with one named Southern New England Telephone and the original long distance division (2). It also bought its rival T-Mobile USA for a staggering $39 billion in order to improve its services and lessen its competition. (1) It now hosts 294,600 employees and is led by its CEO, Randall L. Stephen (3). It proudly offers one of the words most advanced and powerful global backbone networks, it is also United States fastest mobile broadband network, the leading U.S provider of local and long distance voice services as well as the fastest WI-FI provider and 100 percent IP-based television service. AT&T also publishes 1,250 Real Yellow Pages titles annually; the company counts with more than 220 countries in voice coverage, and mobile broadband in more than 130 countries. (11) Throughout this document you will find detailed financial information analyzing whether this multimillion-dollar company has been successful within its industry in recent years or not. H ISTORY American Telephone and Telegraph Company is as old as the telephone itself. The company that became AT&T began in 1875 in an arrangement among inventor Alexander Graham Bell and his two financers, Gardiner Hubbard and Thomas Sanderes(4). Bell seeked to invent a talking telegraph, otherwise known as a telephone and succeeded, earning his patents in 1876 and 1877. Therefore on 1877, the three men formed the Bell Telephone Company and began to exploit his invention. Within three years telephone exchange existed in most major cities and towns in the United States, operating under licenses of what was the American Bell Telephone Company. (4) Soon after in 1882, American Bell bought a large portion of the Western Electric Company, which was used as its manufacturing company; collectively the enterprise became known as the Bell System.
