(10-0014) Analysis of Current Dominican Issues-Sec.02 Professor Elsa Torres May 24, 2011 Two of drug trafficker’s properties fetch RD$105M in auction RD105M-in-auction Santo Domingo.- The National Assets Agency (BN) yesterday auctioned the first group of real properties owned by the ex Army captain Quirino Paulino, who agreed to a plea deal on drug trafficking charges in the United States. The Fénix Foundation bid RD$14 million and won the first of the properties, whose bidding began at RD$13 million. The properties include one residence in the upscale sector Los Cacicazgos; and a third floor condo in nearby Mirador Norte, bought for RD$3.5 million by its longtime tenants. Yesterday’s auction of Paulino’s assets earned a total of RD$105 million, with several more properties still to be sold, including a gas station and a large farm. Overview Some of the properties bought by Quirino Paulino, a renowned case of a high official related to drug trafficking, were recently sold by the National Assets Agency (BN). The auction raised a total of RD$105 million and there are still some properties left to be auctioned. Opinion
