Page 3 Introduction Management Information Systems (MIS) “A management information system (MIS) is a system or process that provides the information necessary to manage an organization effectively. MIS and the information it generates are generally considered essential components of prudent and reasonable business decisions.” (1) In current times it is more than necessary to have a management information system running in your business. Not only does everything revolve around technology, a management information system aside from reducing costs, it enhances communication amongst employees and bosses, helps in the delivery of information throughout the enterprise, serves as a base system on which the institution may store information, and backs up the institution’s mission and goals. Ergo, it is incredibly beneficial for an institution to use management information

Development The best way to understand the meaning of Management Information System is breaking these words apart and understanding each individually as follows. A system is a scientific method of analysis and observation, and gathering data in order to be able to make a conclusion. Data are only facts and figures and have no value until they are compiled into a system and can provide information to enable the making of decisions. (3) Information is facts provided or learned about something or someone, it is what is used in the act of informing or the state of being informed. It includes knowledge acquired by someone, somehow. “In the 1960s and 70s, it became necessary to formalize educational systems for business so that individuals, work groups, and businesses could have appropriate information.”(3) Technical developments in computers, data processing, and new theories of systems analysis made it possible to make things work in computers. Much of this computerization of systems was due to research done by the Federal
