Valerie Bodden K. (10-0014) Leadership July 14, 2010 Profiles in Courage by John F. Kennedy Courage. It is expected that every person who wants to be a leader knows that in order to do so, an immense amount of courage and determination is needed. Profiles in Courage, written by John F. Kennedy, is a book that explains how eight different senators outshined the rest throughout history due to the courage they showed under different circumstances. This book also explains how courage should be thought of as “grace under pressure” and how the American society is being affected by the media, therefore not recognizing when courageous acts occur. Kennedy believes that the United States has forgotten what courage is, therefore does not recognize it nor demand it from its officials. This happens because of several reasons, three to be precise. The first social and public pressure that prevent some of these courageous acts from occurring is the American need to be liked. Since all
