ASE Correlation This job sheet is related to the ASE Automatic Transmission and Transaxle Test’s Content Area: In Vehicle Transmission and Transaxle Repair. Task: Inspect, repair, and replace governor assembly. Tools and Materials Torque wrench Describe the vehicle that was assigned to you: Year _________ Make ___________________________ Model ___________________ VIN ____________________ Engine type and size ______________________________ Transmission type and model _______________________________________________ Procedure 1. If the pressure tests suggested that there was a governor problem, it should be removed, disassembled, cleaned, and inspected. Some governors are mounted internally and the transmission must be removed to service the governor. Others can be serviced by removing the extension housing or oil pan, or by detaching an external retaining clamp and then removing the unit. To disassemble a typical governor, remove the primary governor valve from its bore in the governor housing.
