Tools and Materials Snap ring pliers Feeler gauge set Describe the vehicle being worked on: Year _________ Make ___________________________ Model ___________________ VIN ____________________ Engine type and size ______________________________ Model and type of transmission ______________________________________________ Procedure 1. The planetary gears used in automatic transmissions are the helical type gear and all gear teeth should be inspected for chips or stripped teeth. Any gear that is mounted to a splined shaft needs the splines checked for mutilation or shifted splines.
