4/22/11 Sociocultural Anthropology: Short essays in first part author’s name or an example or whatever Look at syllabus for the example and follow that to the T Long essay will not be specific will allow you to choose the authors you want to discuss Step back and question the question Well what would it mean to talk about the institution? What is an institution? A better essay would say “what do we mean when we talk about identity” then theorize that then get deeper into the work Look generally at something and then get specific Make an argument don’t just spew information like a thesis statement Sources: in order of priority: 1. Readings 2. Films 3. Lectures 4. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
