Psychology 3100 The film “Babies” captures the lives of four mothers as they raised their babies in four entirely different cultures around the world. The film depicts how each culture treats, raises, and handles their babies and the similarities and differences between them. One thing that caught my attention was in the opening credits when each baby was being prepared for birth and the immediate after-care of the baby. The four cultures used different birthing methods and the care of their newborns was very distinct across cultures. In the U.S where birth-giving is a medical procedure, it was eye-opening to see how mothers gave birth from different parts of the world. In the following paragraphs I will describe the birthing methods and the immediate after care of each child in their respective cultures starting first with Ponijao from Namibia. Ponijao was an active baby and very curious to see any and all things that were in his surroundings. He actively played with his siblings and used objects around him for play as well. His active, curious, and rough playful tendencies were perhaps due to the fact that he was born in
