Florida International University CEG-4011 GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING I Summer Term 2010 Course Parameters Learning Objectives: The student will be presented with a wide range of experiences in the classroom, laboratory and field trips in order to become comfortable with the basic theoretical and practical principles of soil and rock mechanics. The scope of the course is directed towards making the student aware of the influence of geotechnical principles in all fields of civil engineering. The topics are presented through the use of slides, videos, handouts, discussions, weekly quizzes and homework. Students will have available a weekly appraisal of their progress. Time/Venue: Tuesdays and Thursdays 1400-1515 hours at EC-2420. Instructor : Luis A. Prieto-Portar PhD, PE, SE. Office Hours: MTWRF 0900-1700 hours; other meetings by appointment.
