1. What is the history of the term “homosexuality”? What are other ways that same-sex relations have been recorded and conceptualized pre-1800’s? It was invented in 1869, which was meant to refer specifically to sexual behavior among makes who are identified by others and identify themselves as such according to the sex of their partner. It was largely a western creation. 2. What is the difference between act-oriented definitions of homosexuality and identity-oriented definitions of homosexuality? Before the 19 th century homosexuality was seen as act-oriented meaning the person was labeled a homosexual because they were partaking in the act of sodomy. Identity oriented definition came with the construction of the more modern definition of homosexuality where people were thought to be self aware of their sexual preferences. 3. What is sexuality and what do sociologists study when they research sexuality?

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
