345"Prescribing Preferred Policies" Please respond to the following:Select what you feel are the two most important of the six criteria for policy prescription to use in deciding a policy's(a.) effectivesness, (b.) effieciency, (c.) adequacy, (d) equity, (e.) responsiveness, and (f.) appropriateness. Defend your choice by providing a real or hypothetical public policy issue.Effectiveness and Appropriateness are the two most important of the six criteria for policy prescription to use in deciding a policy. The reason being effectiveness and appropriateness both are covering the main areas of policy prescriptions such as explicit rules, principles, and standards for important decision-making criteria. Decision making criteria helps to maximize utility, with solving problems to satisfy conditions. When it comes to satisfying conditions, effectiveness helps with delivering a desired outcome. “Effectiveness refers to the achievement of a valued outcome” . For an example and according to the text, “effectiveness, a property of technical rationality, is measured in terms of units of products or services or their monetary value. If more energy, defined in terms of British Thermal Units (BTUs), is produced by nuclear generators than solar collection devices, then nuclear generators are more effective. In this context, an effective health policy is one that provides people with more quality adjusted life years (QALYs)” .The reason for choosing appropriateness is because it is related to substantive rationality, which is more important when making complicated and complex decisions. When making complex decisions certain outcomes and valued results are expected. "Appropriateness refers to the value or worth of a programs and to the tenability assumptions underlying these objectives. While all of the other criteria take objectives for granted, for example, the value either of efficiency or of equity -the criterion of the appropriateness asks whether these objectives are proper ones for society."After analyzing and really viewing both all I could think about were the two that would give the best results. Appropriateness allows all criteria to be considered together effectiveness, efficiency, adequacy, equity, and responsiveness.
