Joseph Wallace 10/6/10 Soc 185 C Cultural Theory Professor Cruz Reflection Statement Human beings are shaped by the culture in which they grow accustom to. A person becomes a product of the environment they grow up in and experience life through. One’s culture becomes what a person believes in and how they act and perceive different objects. In class we played the song “Baby Love” by Diana Ross and the Supremes. This song is a classic in the eyes of many Americans and had a much deeper meaning than simply a hit song. The Supremes were composed of three African American Females who began performing together in the 1960’s. A time in the United States that is known for much racism and violence. These ladies embraced their femininity and heritage and became a symbol in America others could follow. Although the United States is one nation there are obviously many cultures inside our nation. The Supremes hit song “Baby Love” was undoubtedly popular and accepted into the culture of many Americans during the 1960’s. However, if that song is played to
