Introduction Your body is made up of six very important nutrients: Water, Fat, Protein, Carbohydrates, and other vitamins and minerals. When dealing with one’s health, there are many factors that can influence one’s body weight. Although weight is not always the best indicator of one’s health, there are ways to determine healthy body composition. The tool is called bioelectric impendence analysis (BIA). Another way to determine one’s body composition is by figuring out one’s body mass index (BMI). To find out your BMI, you take you divide your weight by you height squared then multiply it all by 705. These methods will give you a better understanding of your overall body composition. Three different types of mass make up your body’s mass: lean mass, fat mass, and water mass. You can take this information and break it down further by calculating the percentages of fat, body cell mass (BMC), extra curricular mass (ECM), total body water (TBW), and intercellular water (ICW). These are much better indicators of one’s health than just simply taking their body weight. Fat has a total density of .9g/ml and is the energy storage for the body. This is equal to the person’s actual mass minus the fat free mass. Body cell mass is the portion of the body where the work is done. The body cell mass contains about 98-99% of the body’s potassium, which is needed to maintain the
