L06 Monoamines Catecholamines : dopamine, neuroepinephrine, epinephrine They are synthezied from tyrosine from diet….eating more tyrosine will not increase  catecholamines because dependent upon tyrosine receptors across blood brain barrier KNOW SYNTHESIS OF TYROSINE Da=dopamine TH=Tyrosine hydroxalase TH=rate limiting step of reaction, doesn’t matter upon tyrosine in diet cuz limited by  receptors Phosphorylation of TH= increase catalytic activity=increase in DA,NE,and Epi How catecholamines are stored H+,ATP-ase, and VMAT which mediate vesicular packaging Reserpine blocks VMAt which blocks storage and ultimately causes dopamine  depletion NE Storage:  Amphetamines look like Dopamine, so when taking dopamine amphetamines  block DA uptake into vesicles and reduces NE levels…dopamine depletion Storage/Release: Nondirectional release from varicosities (spray bottle)  AMPHs=amphetamines
