Renal TBL Learning Objectives and Drug List I. Plasma Sodium Disturbances (hyponatremia and hypernatremia) ---hyponatremia LO1: Recall the equation to calculate the sodium deficit and recognize when to use it. LO2: Given a patient’s current plasma sodium concentration, body weight, volume of distribution of sodium: (1) Calculate the amount of sodium (sodium deficit) required to raise the plasma sodium to a desired level. (2) Calculate the amount of fluid required to provide the amount of sodium given the fluid’s sodium concentration LO3: Given the rate of correction for the plasma sodium and the difference between the desired plasma sodium and current plasma sodium, calculate the time needed to restore the plasma sodium to the desired level. LO4: Calculate the rate of infusion of a fluid to restore the plasma sodium to a desired level using the: (1) amount of fluid required and (2) time needed to restore the plasma sodium. ---hypernatremia LO5: Recall the equation to calculate the water deficit and recognize when to use it. LO6:
