BADM 4513: Strategy and Integration in Organizations Fall Semester 2011 Oklahoma State University * Spears School of Business * Department of Management Instructor: Corey Fox Office: Hanner Hall 212 Office Hours: Tuesday and Thursday from 9-11:00 am, 2-4pm, or by appointment Telephone: 563-508-4748 E-mail: corey.fox@okstate.edu (This is the preferred means of communication) Textbook for the course: Strategic Management 5 th edition: Dess, Lumpkin, Eisner. Course Description This course will focus on familiarizing students with strategy and decision making in management. The course covers three vital areas of strategy in business—strategic analysis, strategic formulation, and strategic implementation. Students will have ample opportunities to apply the knowledge they have acquired through case analyses, class participation, individual projects, and a group project. Course Objectives 1. To teach you the fundamental aspects of strategic analysis, strategy formulation, and strategy implementation. 2. To integrate the knowledge you have learned in other core business courses with knowledge of strategy in business and apply what you have learned to unique problems and situations. 3. To develop your skills as a strategist in the areas of intuition, decision-making, opportunity recognition and exploitation, and critical thinking. Course Format I will use a lecture format and students are highly encouraged to offer their insights throughout the lecture. In some classes we will work in small groups and, on occasion, watch a video which relates to the material being covered. Grading Exams (40%) This course will have three exams which will represent 40% of your final grade. All exams will be closed notes and closed book. Each exam will cover material from the text, lectures, and cases. Exam 1 and Exam 2 will each account for 10%, while the Final exam will account for 20% of your final grade. Exams 1 & 2 will be short answer/essay, multiple choice, and true/false questions.

The final exam will be short answer/essay, multiple choice, and true/false questions. This exam will be comprehensive so please make the appropriate preparations! No student will be allowed to utilize electronic devices (phones, mp3 players, etc.) at any point during the exam. Students caught using these devices will receive a score of zero. For students that may need to make-up exams: o While all students are expected to take all exams when scheduled, if for some extenuating circumstance you are not able to do so, please contact me beforehand (and not the night before) to set up a time to re-take the exam. Make-up exams are a privilege, not a right, and will be given at my discretion in a format of my choosing (e.g. all essay exam). If you miss an exam without giving me prior notice, you will receive a zero. EXCEPTIONS WILL NOT BE MADE. Group Project (30%)
