MAE 3113 MEASUREMENTS AND INSTRUMENTATIONS SPRING 2006 Lab 3a Operational Amplifiers (Week 1) Introduction: The operational amplifier is one of the most versatile integrated circuits available. It can be the bases of many useful instrumentation applications, while only having a starting cost as low as 20¢. Objective: The purpose of this lab is to introduce you to a few of the basic functions of an op-amp. You will be using the LM741C in this lab. Because of its low cost and reliability, the LM741 is one of the most popular general-purpose op-amps available. In this lab you will learn how to: 1. Build and test the following: a. Voltage follower i. Setup a simple resistor and LED on the output side of the op-amp and measure current at both the output and input pins on the op-amp. b. Non-inverting amplifier with a gain between 5 and 10 i. Measure the voltage ratio over a range bound by the swing voltages. The swing voltages are the voltages which are being supplied to the op-amp (Pins 4 and 7)
