Tim Kelly 2-1-2001 Com 251 Kelley, D. (1998). The communication of forgiveness.  Communication Studies,  49,  255-271. The research done by Douglas Kelley on the interactional nature of forgiveness was aimed to answer two questions. The first being “Is the type of relationship in which an injury occurs associated in a systematic way with any or all of the other three components of the forgiveness process: motivations, strategies, and consequences?” The second research question was “is the directness of a forgiveness-granting strategy associated in a systematic way with the relational consequences of a relational offence?” These two research questions arose after Kelley read and examined several similar studies on forgiveness. The research questions that are the focus of this study shift prior research into a new context, and is an attempt to extend a few, already prominent theories regarding forgiveness. This study was conducted as somewhat of a survey/ textual analysis research. The researchers gathered 107 college students who were told to write three narratives. One
