Guidance for Paper Topics due October 21, 2010 In an effort to reduce some anxiety and to give you a jump-start for the Position Paper, I am requiring that each student turn in their topic on October 21, 2010. What is required from you is a one-page summary (typed and double-spaced) of what you topic will be and a list of sources, which you intend to use for the paper. Remember, this assignment is a position paper: that is a statement of an opinion relevant to an issue within the organized crime arena, which is supported by the presentation of scholarly research. Let me provide you an example to show you the goal of the paper. A student a few years ago chose this position: The U.S. Military is training street gang members to be better street fighters making them a major threat to law enforcement. His thesis was this: The U.S. military, in order to maintain an all-volunteer army, had loosened recruiting standards. In the past, any recruit with a serious criminal history or gang affiliation was denied enlistment to the U.S. Army.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
