Received a Grammy for Best Soundtrack Album or Recording of Original Cast form Motion Picture or Television Memorable songs: "I Feel Pretty"- dress shop when Maria's with friends, describes Maria's feelings Love story "Somewhere"- Maria and Tony talk about how they'll stick together after guys die Love story "Tonight"- Showed us the different perspectives of each group Love story, representing individuality of each gang/group "America"- Puerto Ricans are talking about America with contrasting opinions The American Dream Cast controversy Natalie Wood lip-synched to songs recorded by Marnie Nixon. Wood was criticized for not maintaining a believable Puerto Rican accent during the film. Only secondary Shark roles were given to Latino actors Puerto Rican Identity Why is it difficult to ascertain Puerto Rican ethnicity? Many of the actors were "black faced," so it was difficult to tell who was Puerto Rican
