Sigmund Freud Introductory Lectures on Psycho-Analysis TERMS TO KNOW: Freud: A Brief Life; Editor’s Introduction; Preface; Lectures I, II, III “Wolf Man” – Freud “christened” one of his patients “Wolf Man” because of a dream he related to Freud about white wolves that looked like foxes who were about to eat him. Psycho-Analysis – a body of ideas developed by Freud primarily devoted to the study of human psychological functioning and behavior. Psycho-analysis has three main components: 1. A method of investigation of the mind and the way one things, 2. A systematized set of theories about human behavior, and 3. A method of treatment of psychological or emotional illness. Hypnosis – a mental state or imaginative role-enactment usually induced by hypnotic induction, which is composed of a long series of preliminary instructions and suggestions.
