2AbstractThis paper will explain why and how the Oklahoma City bombing happened twenty-five years ago. The paper will also explain how the criminal behavior of Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols, how they affected Oklahoma on 19 April 1995 at 9:02 a.m. and how it was the deadliest terror attack prior to 9/11. The paper will provide details about the type of crime which is domestic terrorism, the characteristics in a particular offender that would portray these types of attacks, along with the psychological and biological perspective based on the two men. I will explain a variety of topics as to why they wanted to commit this attack on the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. I will also be able to help identify and be able to be well aware, and be able to understand what caused them to commit this terror attack. Which could help people to become a little bit more aware of their surroundings and be a little bit more alert to their surroundings. Although there were three people who were involved, I will be putting my main focus on talking about Timothy McVeigh’s involvement with the attack on the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.
3Introduction On 19 April 1995 at 9:02 a.m. Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols detonated a bomb at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, killing 168 people including 19 children and injuring over 680 more. This blast destroyed and damaged 324 other buildings that were in a 16 block radius with a ammonium nitrate and nitromethane truck bomb. After this terror attack congress passed the Anti-terrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996. Which tightened the standards of habeas corpus in the United States, along with the legislation designed to increase the protection around federal buildings to prevent future terrorist attacks. 90 minutes after the attack, Timothy McVeigh was stopped by the Oklahoma Highway Patrolman Charlie Hanger, for driving without a license plate and then arrested for illegal weapons possession (Jenkins, 2020). Category, Characteristics, Typical Offenders, and Theoretical Perspectives This crime would be categorized as domestic terrorism. Domestic terrorism is a terror attack that isbecause they were carried out by a citizen of the United States or a United States permanent residents. Domestic terrorists is a person who does an act that can be dangerous to thehuman life and can be characterized as someone who intimidates the civilian population, influences the policy of the government by intimidating, affects the conduct of the government by mass destruction, assassination or kidnapping. Since Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols both blew up a federal building and were citizens of the United States this attack was categorizedas a domestic terrorism (ACLU, 2020). People who take part in terrorist attacks are likely to not volunteer as the experimental subject. Terrorists usually are extremists who have a different cultural value and a past of violent offenses (DeAngelis, 2009). Theoretical perspectives that could possibly name this type of situation would be psychological and social. Psychological
