Biology 212 Lab Section 10 RESEARCH PROPOSAL What effects does Gibberellic acid (GA) have on the germination of seeds and development of roots and shoots on moist germination paper? Hypothesis: Gibberellic acid is a product of the fungus Gibberellia fujikuroi , which produces plant growth promoting properties (Physiologia Plantarum, Vol. 8 1955). Also, “Regardless of genotype (tall or small plants), more gibberellin, more lateral growth” (Gibberellins and Gibberellic acid). When adding Gibberellic acid (GA) hormone to a seed, it causes a cease in the dormancy process induced by abscisic acid. In addition, the seed will undergo an increase in enzyme production, which breaks down the seed’s food reserves, resulting in cell elongation involved in seedling emergence and more rapid germination (Bio Investications, 357). Experimental Design: In my experiment I plan on observing the amount of apical stem growth a control seed has verses a seed that has been inserted with the gibberellic acid
