Sweating to cool down, dilates blood vessels, maintain blood pressure, blood sugar levels/insulin Seat of consciousness- where all thinking happens, aware of your surroundings, “thalamus-sex, hunger, thirst” Perceive sensations- pain Source of voluntary acts- motor neurons, efferent (away from ) Seat of emotions- major emotions (love) feelings for others, yourself Location of higher mental functions- calm down by breathing- center you

Cerebral Cortex – Functional areas Motor areas- motor functions, carry info out of body, Primary motor cortex- filled with pyramidal cell, sends axons to tracts, tracts go out to body (cortico spinal tracts) have myelin on them, Premotor cortex- in front of motor cortex, control learned motor skills that are repetitive, typing, dancing, talking Broca’s area- left hemisphere, direct muscle of lips, cheek, tongue, larynx, things dealing with speech, muscle with breathing dealing with speech Frontal eye field- voluntary eye movement Descussation- happens in medulla oblongata, means crossing over, all info coming out of left side of brain will go to right side of your body, crosses over medulla oblongata
