Founding There are many legendary accounts of the foundation of Rome. Archaeological evidence suggests inhabitants on site of the future city starting in the late 9th century. The traditional founding date of Rome is 753 B.C.E. by Romulus.

Seven Kings of Rome During the period of monarchy, Rome carved out its place in Italy among the Etruscans, Sabines, Latins, among others. Each king contributed to the identity of the Romans through their reforms in warfare, religion, and social classes.
