09/09/2011 Introduction to African History Islam History 1) Abrahamic Religions (Judaism, Christianity, last of them is Islam) 2) Bloodline (Abraham-Isaac-Jacob for Jews; Abraham-Ishmael for Muslims;  Arabs claims to be descendants of the first-born of Abraham) 3) Started with Mohammed; He was born in 570 in Mecca. People who didn’t  like the religion fled and went to Medina-Hijira. Mohammed declared that,  up until the 16 th  century, there was no military campaign against  Christianity because of the kindness that was shown to his family, which  he declared that war is not to be waged against Christians.  4) 632-732, century after Mohammed died, first Muslims were Arabs. (no  religion in history has expanded so greatly in a century as Islam did during  732-732). Muslims were found, in 642, Arab army now in Egypt and then  from there to westward in North Africa, then in 711, the Moors invade
