How It Works The Electoral College is chosen by the amount of members of the House of representatives and senators each state has representing them. A President and Vice President to be elected they need to have gained 270 votes out of the 538 electors. “Despite popular belief, the U.S. Constitution does not provide for the popular election of the American president. It provides for popular election of presidential electors.” (Elving,2016)
