Weisbrot argues that, despite calls to the contrary, the Social Security system is healthy and sustainable. There can be no doubt that Weisbrot is committed to his belief that Social Security is not in trouble and that its only problem is the alarm created by its critics, whom he refers to in negative terms. Weisbrot states that "increasing revenues" may be needed to fund Social Security in the future and says wages would not be greatly affected. However, he fails to support this claim and does no provide any resources or explanations that support his view. He repeats this when he alludes to the fact that "at some point" Social Security may need additional funding, a central point to his argument and that of the opposing camp, but he does not indicate how much revenue nor when it would be needed. Also, at the end of his article the author states that Americans need to focus on "real" problems like poverty, health insurance, and others and then says that nations similar to the U.S. do not have these problems. This assertion fails to consider that even similar nations may have very different populations, societies, taxes, and issues. In fact, as Weisbrot points out, these comparable nations also have "budget surpluses as far as the eye can see." In the end, no.
