Taarika George Period B- Mr. Putnam Extra Credit As you may know, I have an Asian Indian background. My culture is very important to me. After reading about this extra credit project, I knew there was no better person to ask, than my grandfather. He lives in India and has been through many historical events in his lifetime. He was happy to share just a few of the events he witnessed in both India and America. This is what he wrote: ” I, grandfather of Taarika, was born in Kerala, the southernmost state of India. After high school, in June of 1947, I moved to New Delhi, the capital of India, about 2000 kilometers away and completed a degree in agriculture degree. While a student, India got its Independence on August 15 th , 1947 from British rule. I witnessed the handing over ceremony by Lord Mountbatten Viceroy to the new government at a midnight celebration in a huge stadium. India achieved freedom through non-violent means adopted by years of effort led by one man named Mahatma Gandhi. He studied in South Africa to become a lawyer, but was treated badly. He returned to India to fight a revolution,
