ESE 471 Project Spring 2010 Assigned Date: April 19, 2010 Due Date: May 3 in class. Throughout the semester, we learned many different aspects of communication theory. For example, we learned about the entropy and channel capacity for determining requirements and capabilities of communication systems, orthogonal functions for transmitting signals over the channel, and different types of modulation/demodulation methods. Based on what we know now, you are given a very open problem of designing and analyzing a communication system. Here are given constraints: Bandpass communication system with a center frequency of f c (For example, f c may be 500 MHz or 500 kHz.) Limited but not specified amount of bandwidth (e.g., 200 kHz around f c ) m(t), the message, is an audible signal, i.e., band-limited to 0 – 20 kHz.
