Paper Topic # 1 Strangers to Ourselves suggests that substantial portions of our behavior, thought, emotion, and perception are automatic and processed without our knowledge. It suggests that our personalities and our attraction to another person might not be as stable as we thought, and might be deeply affected by situation and context. It even suggests that people have no idea why they do the things they do. Answer both of the following questions: 1. Do you agree with the main arguments in STO? Provide evidence to support your answer. 2. What effect, if any, do you think introspection and self-awareness can have on automatic processing? Is it possible to lift the veil that hides our unconscious from us, and if so, how will that change us? Do not exceed 3 double-spaced typed pages, using normal margins and Times New Roman (or a similar font). My Outline Thesis: As humans, we have no control over our unconscious mind. We may never know the true meaning of our emotions, behaviors, thoughts, or perceptions as long as we live.
