Karen M. Overbey Identify the technical tools that might be used in the communication process. Describe the process an officer should follow when communicating with another officer, the department, or the dispatch center before or after an incident. Police officers use numerous technical tools to communicate to other officers, the department, and the dispatch center. Police officers must be able to speak, listen, write and understand in order to communicate effectively and they should continually sharpen these skills so they are understood by fellow officers and their superiors. When the officers are communicating with the department, they will communicate in writing, in the form of reports and memorandums. Oral communication skills are also necessary for police officers to request assistance from other officers and keep their superiors informed of what is going on in the community. It is important for officers to communicate with the department so that they are aware of the location of the officers and what cases they are working on. These reports need to
