Grading Guidelines for Writing Assignments I will assign a letter grade according to the content guidelines below. Then I will consider the amount and type of grammatical errors in your paper and deduct approximately 1/3 grade (i.e. from A to A-) per three mistakes. An A paper: Answers all the questions completely and directly. Uses short quotations from the text to support a claim. Clearly states and maintains a single position. Brings up possible problems or shortcomings and offers a solution. Has a very brief introduction that specifies the question, author(s), work(s), and your solution. Has a very brief conclusion that summarizes the theme of the paper. A B paper: Answers almost every part of the question. Has some textual support for the claim. Takes a strong position to answer the question. Does not consider further questions that arise from the text. Has an introduction that either is too long or does not identify all the relevant information. Lacks a brief conclusion.
