  ENGLISH 209 Spring 2010 INSTRUCTOR:Lyn Motai Office: HUM 230 Mailbox:  HUM 125 Hrs: Tuesday and Thursdays 5-7 PM  email: [email protected] COURSE DESCRIPTION:  English 209 is a course in English composition.  Throughout the semester you  will write and revise several compositions as well as do informal writing each week in which you will  reflect on the course readings.  Course work includes learning how to develop, focus and organize your  ideas in writing and regular reading assignments.  Although some class time may be spent on grammar, you  are responsible for basic competence in English grammar.  If you are enrolled in English 212, you will be  expected to apply what you learn to your writing in English 209.  If you are not in English 212, you will be  expected to work independently on your grammar.   REQUIRED TEXTS: English 209 Reader: CMS: First Year Composition /Instructor: Lyn Motai ATTENDANCE POLICY :  Attendance will be taken at every class meeting.  If you are absent more than   the equivalent of      one week of class (2 days),      for whatever reason, including illness, you may have the       option of withdrawing from the class or may receive No Credit in the course, depending on the reasons for   absence .  Being late three times is equivalent to one absence .  YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL CLASS  WORK EVEN IF YOU ARE ABSENT .  Please email your instructor or classmate to get the current  assignments if you must miss class.
