English 212 (09): Advanced Grammar for Writing Instructor:  Priya Abeywickrama                   Office  HUM 269   Office hours:  T/TH 1:00-3:00                     Email:  abeywick@sfsu.edu  Telephone:  338-3095                                Mailbox:   HUM 125  COURSE CONTENT In English 212 you will review different elements of English grammar to improve  your grammatical accuracy and increase the level of sophistication of your  sentence structure.  Features of grammar that will be covered include verb  tenses, verbals, adverb clauses, conjunctions and transitions, adjective clauses,  and noun clauses.  You will analyze these structures in the writing of others as  well as in your own writing.  You will do some grammar exercises, but the  primary work in the course will be writing brief compositions and editing those  compositions.  Through the process of practicing, writing, and editing, you will  learn to communicate more fluently and accurately in English. REQUIRED TEXTS (available in SFSU Bookstore) Read, Write, and Edit: Grammar for College Writers  by P. Porter and D.    vanDommelen  (Photocopies not acceptable; buy a new copy or a used copy without exercises done.)
