Joseph So IRD Ethnic Conflict Asian Americans join fight against sb 1070, video This article introduces the new legislation SB 1070, which allows police officers to interrogate suspected illegal immigrants. In opposition to this legislation, communities in Arizona such as the Asian Pacific American coalition have become to fight this controversial legislation. According to the legislation, immigrants unable to produce documents showing that they are allowed to be in the US can be arrested, jailed, and fined. Opponents to the law argue that it is a dangerous precedent, essentially normalizing racial and ethnic profiling. Following the anti immigration bill which was passed in Arizona, the Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed a new law that essentially bans the division of classes for ethnic studies in Arizona public schools. The effect of the law would essentially shut down ethnic centered classes such as Mexican American studies as well as African American and Native American studies. Within this
