Managers and Managing May 9 th DEF: Management is working with and through individuals and groups in order to achieve desired goals . Must develop interpersonal skills, communicate and work in teams. Most business people are type A, they like to manage. Learn to work with others but also work! Certain positions have roles and responsibilities attached to it. Each branch represents a position and job description. Learn how to delegate give your responsibility and authority to other people. You are still ultimately responsible for delegated work. 1. 85% of your work is spent with others. 2. This position delegated authority to other positions work through others to get the job done. 3. Unique, distinct individuals who have unique distinct needs. Understand needs, motivates them. Specific culture, background, life etc. 4. 2 or more people. Group must co-operate, learn to work with groups which in turn gives you a better point of view. Must create the environment, discuss and come to a consensus. 5. Long term desired result is a goal. Short-term step to achieve is an objective. Managerial Functions Planning : Identifying and selecting appropriate goals and courses of action. Leads to a strategy. Leading
