Chelsea Martin Productivity New Visions May 2008 The main goal of hospitals is to become more productive. That is what everyone is striving for these days. As Americans we like our money and are always trying to find ways to save it up and cut corners. Hospitals are constantly finding ways to save their money and get the most “bang for their buck.” Rochester General Hospital holds meeting all the time about how efficient a department is and how they can make it better. They want to get patients in and out of the hospital as fast as possible and they avoid doing excess health care. For example, in the Ambulatory Surgery Centre at the hospital, administration and other employees were touring the department and seeing how slow the process of having a small surgery was from the patient’s point of view. They evaluated the time it took for certain parts of the process and selected areas where they could work on. They found that the amount of time it took to get from the parking garage to the ASC was too
