ME360 Winter 2011 HW #9sol 1. Draw approximate Bode plots for the following transfer functions on the grids given below and compare them with the true plots using Matlab. a) ? ( ± ) = 1000 ± ( ± +1) ( ± +0.1)( ± +10)( ± +100) = 10 ± ( ± +1) ( ± /0.1+1)( ± /10+1)( ± /100+1) Breakpoints: 0.1, 1, 10, 100 Points for phase angle: 0.01, 0.1, 1(10 x of 0.1 and 0.1 x of 10), 10(10 x of 1 and 0.1 x of 100), 100, 1000 The first line: 20 dB/dec slope with the value of 20 log 10 = 20 at ² = 1 . Drawing the magnitude is straightforward but there are two things to note in drawing the phase angle. a) At ² = 1 rad/sec, the fact that ² is 10 x of 0.1 suggests to change the slope by 45 º /dec but at the same time, the fact that ² is 0.1 x of 10 suggests to change the slope by -45 º /dec. Hence, the resulting net slope change is zero. b) Likewise, at ² = 10 rad/sec, the fact that ² is 10 x of 1 suggests to change the slope by -45 º /dec but at the same time, the fact that ² is 0.1 x of 100 suggests to change the slope by -45
