M E M O R A N D U M TO: Dr. Kuang-An Chang Instructor, CVEN 302, Fall 2010 FROM: Ryan Henry 219003331 DATE: September 17, 2010 RE: Random Number Generation and Particle Diffusion For this programming assignment, I used rand and randn to generate groups of random num- bers and then plotted them in a bar graph with 20 sub-intervals to see if the random numbers were actually “random”. For figure 1, all of the bars in the bar graph are semi-close to each oth- er, meaning that the random numbers were truly random. Also, in figure 2, the bar graph is bell- shaped, meaning that the random numbers were truly random and normally distributed. Figure 3 is a plot of the “random walk” and diffusion methods which can be observed in the Appendix section in the Matlab code.
