M E M O R A N D U M TO: Dr. Kuang-An Chang Instructor, CVEN 302, Fall 2010 FROM: Ryan Henry 219003331 DATE: October 15, 2010 RE: Analysis of Wave Data Using Root-Finding Methods In this lab we analyzed wave data from a lab test to determine the prop- erties of the waves. We started this lab by creating four user defined func- tions. The first provided our initial guess to the Newton-Raphson method, the second user defined function was evaluating equation one that was given to us in root finding form, the third user defined function evaluated the derivative of equation one, and fourth on evaluated the Newton-Raphson method and was given in the book. After these were written I created a wrapper program to test these programs. After I tested my programs and they were correct I continued by defining my omega, k, and L values through three separate for loops. Once I had these variables defined over there arrays I plotted the wavelength (L) versus the integer number of the wave in the data set (the plot is shown below). As you can see, the wavelength plot seems like a random
